Shane McConkey was the most influential skier or snowboarder of our time. Not only was he an incredible athlete, but he was also one of those innovators who was always tinkering with products to make the sport better and more fun. Between lobbying for mid-fats in the late 90s and pioneering rocker technology in the 2000s, there is not another athlete I can think of who has done more for progressing. On top of all that, Shane was a funny, laugh-out-loud comedian, and on the podcast this week, I take you through my trip to the McConkey PMS event and get some funny Shane stories from folks like Sherry McConkey, JT Holmes, Scott Gaffney, Mike Douglas, Chris Davenport and many more.

Stanley Larsen was one of the original Hot Doggers. Known for his loose contest runs that earned him titles like Canadian National Champion, French Freestyle Champion, Swiss Aerial Champion, and European Champion, Stanley was so much more than a contest guy. And when his skiing was done, Stanley made art in Hollywood, directing Super Bowl commercials and more. On the podcast, we talk about his counterculture roots, Dick Barrymore, Warren Miller, The Marlboro Tour, the death of hotdog skiing, and more. These history lessons are important and not to be missed.

While Mike Marolt is a US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame Member and a badass ski mountaineer, he never really had a pro ski career. He makes his money as a CPA. Micah Evangelista isn’t a household name in the ski world, almost by choice. Micah is the underground, soul-skier type whose love of being in the mountains comes from growing up in the shadow of Mt Baker in Glacier, WA.  Micah is such a talent; I’ve always wondered why he hasn’t blown up in the ski world.
